Almost Last Lock and Tennsaw River Anchorage (#79)

Updated: Nov 27

We started off the day a little melancholy knowing this was our last big lock of our trip, and likely our boating adventure. We are planning on selling our boat at the end of our trip in May, as planned, but there is so much we will miss about the boating life. Locks are a major part of the inland rivers, Trent Severn waterway, and the Erie canal voyages. Completing this lock is the end of an era for our trip.

We continued to try to do record time to minimize our anchoring and beat some of the oncoming weather. We left early with our buddy boat who were delivery captains. They were able to call and find out when we should leave Bobby's to get to the lock. We ended up getting an extra 1/2 hour because a barge passed us as soon as we were getting ready to leave. Luckily, our last lock is a quick one mainly because the barges don't need to disassemble and reassemble when passing through.

We asked them if they would take pictures and they gladly agreed. We were welcomed into the lock by the most amazing egrets flying right above. We couldn't take pictures while we were manuevering, but our buddy boat captured the birds on video.

We had a beautiful, slightly cloudy, transit to our anchorage. We kept looking on Nebo to see if any other loopers seemed to be coming our way, but couldn't see anyone we didn't already know where they were going..

Looking for a shallower place to anchor. Ideal depth is 8-15ft.

We successfully anchored. Because of our expedited travel speed, we found ourselves alone.

The night of our Tennsaw anchorage was stormy with high winds. In the morning we saw this path. As the wind picked up, we left earlier than expected.

Stay: 1 Night

Pros: Deep water, lots of space to swing

Cons: No clear place for us to see to tie up, many people get confused because Navionics sends them down the TennTom to mobile and this river gets shallow and they have to be towed. So far - 6 loopers have met this fate. We had to fight with Navionics to route us correctly.
