Blue Water and Shopping at Port Washington Marina (#45)

There are pictures that we take along our journey that look even more beautiful than we see in real life - like the pictures of the Northern Lights. The pictures we have taken of Port Washington Marina is the opposite. The blue water here was absolutely spectacular and not captured in any of these pictures.

This is the picture of the lighthouse we saw upon entering and leaving the marina.

This picture shows what it looked like fron under the lighthouse looking back at the marina.

There were large barrier walls to walk on to get out to the lighthouse.

This is the fish cleaning station. We didn't get a picture of all the charter boats that were lined up with sign on the front with contact information about their charters.

The neighboring park was Rotary Park.

This basin was a more beautiful blue and always had some churning water coming from both the ocean and the power plant. There were always two boat parked in this basin, but the water wasn't near as calm as we had in the marina.

This is the opposite side of that same basin.

Next to the marina was this beautiful beach with some stones, but not near the quanity on the Michigan side. You also didn't see the rock hunters looking for stones.

Except these two ladies.

Throughout the area, and even on the navigation charts in the Great Lakes are always all the references to the sunken ships. As a boater, Laura doesn't love the constant reference to ship disasters.

On the day before we left these crazy clouds and winds popped up an intense storm which immediately cooled off the area. The winds were unbelievable, and reinforced the idea that the Great Lakes can have some intense weather.

When we were coming into the marina, we could see this boat "Set Free" on our AIS approaching at a much faster speed. This is Burger 50 Yacht. At our favorite marina in Colonial Beach, The Boathouse Marina, the owner has a much larger and older Burger Yacht. After talking to the owner Steve, we learned this couple had been traveling the US & Bahamas for three years doing the Great Loop, and this was their very last voyage. They were winterizing the boat and had offered it up for sail. We know our voyage will end one day, but now it's harder to imagine a life not living on our boat.

Ted wasn't feeling well. Steve offered to take Laura to get groceries, which was wonderful. Laura went shopping at Deluth Trading company.

Pros: Laundry, Beautiful water, Access to Charter Fisheries, Good electricity, Deluth Trading Company

Cons: Grocery not walking distance

Review: 4 stars
