Clewiston before Okeechobee Crossing (#99)

We had a one night stay in Clewiston before making our early trek across to Stuart. Since it was difficult to get a slip in Indiantown along the way, we decided that we would go all the way to Stuart. In order to have enough daylight and be prepared for lock and bridge crossing, we decided Clewiston would be a better staging city for us. There were infinitely more resources in Clewiston, but we missed the quiet of Moore Haven. Since we don't anchor, Moore Haven is as close as we get to solitude.

We left on a small section of the rim route of the Okeechobee. We could have chosen to have gone all around the OkeeChobee on this route.

Occasionally there would be a red marker in the channel to indicate a hazard to avoid.

Along the way we saw the Herbert Hoover Dike.

Later on a walk, Laura found this plaque.

Tthis is the beginning of the route to cross the Okeechobee from west to east.

You can almost see the bouy markers in this shot.

Turning the other direction you can see where our boat was docked behind the catamaran.

We arrived early because we only traveled about 10 miles and got our first choice of the dock after getting our feul. By the end of the day, the entire dock was filled, but mostly with local fisherman.

Stay: 1 Night

Pros: More resources, convenient location

Cons: One section of dock needed repair where they wanted to dock us

Stay: 3 stars
