Cozy Restaurant and Comets in Clifton (#62)

Laura loves the inland waterways and the barges. We have a favorite youtube tug captain that let's us into the eyes of our partners on the waterways. Luckily, the Loopers as a whole have a good reputation both with the tugs and lockmasters who help us navigate this system.

The beauty of the waterways are not fully captured in pictures.

This boat looks to be backed on land. The waterways here can fluctuate 6 feet in a week depending on rain and conditions. All here monitor the dam flow schedules to help prepare.

There are many bass fishing boat that whiz by us in this area. They seem to be the majority of pleasure boating here other than the Loopers. The locals are amazed at how many of us there are at such a specific time of year. Most everything is closing or has closed for the season by the time we arrive.

We had a great spot next to the restaurant.

Our slip in Clifton was right next to the bar and restuarant. The food was superb and much higher than expected. Ted had lamb chops and elk for dinner.

We were able to learn that this marina was purchased by a family of 4 from California. The mother (originally from England) and daughter-in-law built and run this restaurant. They were able to get the first liquor license in this dry county because they are technically on the water (floating)

The cute older town was nearby but completely empty. Apparently the old money of the town doesn't want visitors and so growth is thwarted per the owners.

The last night Ted was able to capture the comet (Tscuschinan-ATLAS or C2023-A3) in this photo which was last seen 80,000 years ago.

Stay: 3 night

Pros: Good restaurant, nice owners and customers, convenient stop on Great Loop route, walkable area

Cons: only 1 restroom accessible after hours

Rating: 4 stars
