We arrived at Racine Marina only to find out that the 30amp service did not work for us. If a power pedestal has the electricity outlets on the same leg, our boat will not accept the power. We now have a cord that will help determine if the power is wired correctly. We were able to move to another slip closer to the restrooms with 50amp service. After talking the locals, we learned that that dock had blown away last year with 80mph winds. (Another reminder that the weather can be rough in this area) When they rebuilt the dock, it sounded like they didn't rewire it correctly.
One of the top priorities of the trip was to see where the dinghy came from at Racine Riverside. Unfortunately, our sales representative was no longer there. We looked around at dinghy's like ours, but this one is made of PVC and not Hypolon like ours.
Laura rented a car to provision and decided to return the car a day early. She went to find out about the SC Johnson tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright building and found that it was full booked for the whole weekend. A tour was beginning in 15 minutes, and they let her participate when there were no shows.
The tour was given by a retired female Chemist. Her perspective and knowledge of the largest privately held companies in the world. This 5th generation company is the maker of Windex, Pledge, Raid, & Off as well as more.
One of the first placed you see on this tour is this relaxing water garden.
There are seats next to this for the employees to relax.
Becuase of conflicting schedules, Laura took a 1 day trip to Chicago on Labor Day weekend. She arrived at Chicago Union Station.
Laura took a water taxi and saw Chinatown park from the water taxi.
We got Rose Gelato.
Grayce, Alexander & I got Gelato but wondered about their process.
We went to the Millenaim Park Bean.
Picture in front of Grayce's apartment with Navy Pier in the background.
Fron in bak of Grayce's building. Her wintows are open on the 10th floor looking over the river.
We watched fireworks in front of her apartment.
We got to see the Labor Day Drone show over Navy pier.
Laura took an earlier train than Grayce and Alexander.
They joined us in Racine and we went to dinner at the beautifully decorated Hotel Marguerite. The food was amazing.
The sunrise before our day to Chicago was also spectacular.
Stay: 5 nights (waiting to get to Chicago earlier)
