Leaving Trent-Severn to Georgian Bay at Midland (#32)

We had one last lock to complete before leaving the Trent Severn. Opening at 9am, we were there after the lock opened at 9am. This small lock fit maybe two boats tight, but luckily we had it all to ourselves.

As always on the Trent Severn, the Lock staff like to have conversations with you. We were able to tell them thank you for our time in the Trent Severn waterway. We watched the incoming boats pay their lock fees because it was their first stop.

This chart explains that the red and green bouy markers change immediately after leaving the lock. We would find out this is extremely important because of the very narrow channel with rock on each side with current from the dam. (No pictures!)

Our first stop in Georgian Bay was in Midland at Wye Heritage Marina. We picked a marina that looked big, but wasn't as near to the main town and other Loopers as we had hoped.

Our first stop was fuel.

This was an extremely big marina, perhaps the biggest one we've been at. However, there was no way to get a picture that really showed how big it was. The space was alson nice.

On our first night, we ate at restaurant on site. The waitress was a bit rude to Laura. Ted started up a conversation with the other table with a mom, daughter and neice. We all became fast friends as they told us all about the local area. They offered to drive us to Midland with our bikes and told us a fun route home. The ride was a lovely, but long ride home. It wasn't close enough for us to drive again.

We only got this picture in Midland.

We had planned to dinghy the next day, but needed to do planning for our Georgian Bay route the next day.

Stay 2 days
