We left beautiful Trenton Port Marina for our first adventure into the Trent Severn waterway locks on Canada Day (Canada's 4th of July) in Frankford, Ontario. We traveled through 8 locks to arrive at Frankford. There are no pictures becuase we were trying to figure out what we were doing!
When entering the Trent Severn waterway, all of the locks are similar so our strategy can be the same. They are all cables that you wrap your lines around. For the Erie we had been using just one line that Ted manuevered, but the Trent requires that you use two of the cables. Ted devised a system to use where he ties up the forward and stern, then Laura turns off the engines and handles the stern. These locks are much gentler. When you have been raised or lowered by the lock, college student lock workers come to talk to you They ask you where you are going and answer any questions you have about the area.
We wanted to get to one of the lock wall moorings that has power, so we left on Canada which everyone said was a bad idea. Fortunately, the traffic was light. We got to lock all day by ourselves, and we were first to the wall so we got power for the night.
We were busy locking and didnt get good pictures of how the manual locks are open and closed.
This was from walking in town for our dinner at Dimitris Restaurant. After a full day of locking, it's nice to relax with food.
This was from walking back from the town to the lock wall.
And there was a beautiful sunset.

Food: Excellent dinner at Dimitris Pizzaria. Walking distance and a great stop after a long first day.
