Pivot to Long Cape May Trip (#7)

Updated: May 21

We started the day with fantastic weather and decided to make the long trip through the Delaware Bay in calm conditions. With constant drizzly rain, the water was calm with a slight swell.

Because the Port of Baltimore is closed, we only saw this one cargo ship for our entire trip through the C&D canal and through Delaware Bay. See the small Loop boat in front if it. Also, you can see on the charts that we are entering the Delaware bay at this point getting ready to turn Starboard (right).

This picture is after we stopped and waited for three local NJ boaters to zoom through this tight passage at way above no-wake speed

This was an old turnstyle bridge. We had to clear both the bridge and the turnstyle bridge in quick succession.

This was hanging on the wall for the slipholders. This was a complete blast from the past still hung on the wall. "Note: There are toll charges on all 408 numbers."

Ted sharing the virtues of our Bromptom bike with an unsuspecting stranger that asked about the bikes.

Laura walked and Ted took the groceries home on the bike. Both of us are happy!

The next day Laura went with Ted on a bike ride...

Same location at the Lighthouse towards the beach.

Lunch on the way back to Utsch's Marina at Willow Creek Winery & Farm. We wanted the advertised farm fresh eggs and ended up having a lovely lunch.

The winery parking instructions worked for us!

Back at Utsch's, the floating docks with fixed piers made for some difficult boarding because of the fenders needed to protect the boat from the piers.

This was a bit of a step to get on the back. Remembering three points of contact (feet & hands) when boarding made it all work!

Summary

Stay: 3 nights

Our favorite stop on the Loop so far. Food was great and met wonderful new friends. This is the stop where we felt we were really on the Loop.
