Pivot to Pebble Isle Marina with Northern Lights (#61)

We had planned to go to another marina, but after hearing reports of low waters and a complicated entry we made a last minute pivoto to Pebble Isle marina. Another boat following us went into that marina, missed a small bouy marker, and hit bottom. The tow captain from Pebble Isle marina pulled them off the bank and to the marina we chose at the last minute.

In this picture you can see the grain silo that was seven stories high before the city of Johnsonville was flooded for the dam in the 60s. The entire town that was flooded moved to New Johnsonville. The marina that we were staying at had remnants of an old school at the entrance.

We stayed here for three days and saw 2-3 sets of looper groups during that time.

We visited Loretta Lynn's ranch with our friends on Therapy.

The mansion was very interesting. Loretta Lynn passed away in 2022 and the musuem and ground are run by her children.

Ted and Ken were fascinated by this bug conversion.

Her home was left as it was in 1988 when she walked out the door for her new home next door. Everything remains in tact from the time she had her home to raise her children. She was on the road much of the time, and her husband did most of the care-taking for the six children she had by the age of 20. She was married at 13 and had 4 children by 17.

On our second to last night we got to see the Northern Lights again. Such a treat to see them twice on this trip.

We had a wonderful time talking to the owners of Pebble Isle marina who made us feel entirely at home. This was a wonderful place to stay for three nights.

Stay: 3 nights

Pros: wonderful owners, newer marina, clean, cinnamon rolls for breakfast, courtesy van, wide docks, laundry, ship store, park nearby, 1.5 hrs Nashville, beautiful, open, peaceful

Cons: longer walk to showers, great restaurant closed by the time we got there due to staff shortage, must drive to town (20-30 min away)

Ranking: 5 stars
