Prepare for Lake Michigan Crossing in Frankfort (#42)

Frankfort to Sturgeon Bay is the shortest crossing on Lake Michigan. We rushed to Frankfort, skipping the Leland and Northport marinas we had planned before our delay at Drummond Yacht Haven, so we could have our fabulous weather for our Lake Michigan crossing.

Our weather leaving Charlevoix was much better thant the two days before. These are the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan we saw along the way.

Our friends from Finito took these pictures as we were docking.

We had to get our electricity from the outer dock because our electric pedestal was full. There was lots of moving around of cords to get our two 30amp services on a different line. Getting electricity when we dock is always the first step we have to confirm with the deckhands after we tie up.

We were able to meet up with Finito (and their guests) for dinner.

We also were able to catch up with our friends from Dream Looper at the pool, but we don't have pictures.

Before we left for our early morning trip across Lake Michigan, Laura went to find some goodies at the local bakery and got to see the town in the early morning hours. The Sparking Star dinghy cover is visible in this picture.

As the sun woke up, we were ready for our Lake Michigan crossing.

This picture shows the slight bit of fog, but also all the fishing boats. The day after we left was the beginning of a big fishing tournament for the area and there were fishing boats everywhere.

Jacobson Resort Marina

Pros: Free car, Pool, clean bathrooms, close to town, nice and knowledgable staff, easy fuel

Cons: Hard to get out of the marina to the town (think it might be on purpose so people don't walk to the marina.), website has no data.
