We had a brief one night stay at Sunbury Crab Company Marina. Unfortunately, the Sunbury Crab Company is closed on Monday and Tuesday - and we arrived on a Tuesday.

We learned from the owners that this long concrete pier is all that was there when they bought the property 21 years ago. The story is that the previous owners built it to be able to offload marijuana from Columbia from shrimping boats. But then people started going to jail and that business slowed... So the marina owner built out the marina and restaurant and he and two of his children help run it.

We enjoyed the peace and solitude.

We said it was like anchoring but with power and land.

There were a few historic plaques talking about the history of this small area which once was a major shipping destination.

The trees were gorgeous.

The restrooms and showers were in the pool house behind their home. This was definitely a first for us.
Stay: 1 night
Pros: Great stop with few options, friendly and helpful owners, nice area to walk around
Cons: Closed on Monday and Tuesday, no stores or restaurants nearby
